4. « Polymer chemistry »

Objective

"Polymer chemistry in a jiffy" was designed for those of you who don't have the time or the resources to prepare simple experiments or if you don't have access to a science laboratory. The solutions (liquids) are ready to use.
You can make alginate threads, slime or threads of polyvinyl alcohol. You can also look at rubber, with bouncing balls, super-absorbent materials and heat-shrink tubes (typical appearance of thermoplastic).

Content

The "Polymer chemistry in a jiffy" comes in the form of an attaché case. It contains simple, non-hazardous chemical reagents, a teacher's booklet and the materials necessary to perform the experiments.

Description

• The teacher's booklet;
• The students' information sheets;
• Alginate: an aqueous solution of calcium chloride and an aqueous solution of sodium alginate;
• Slime: an aqueous solution of calcium chloride and an aqueous solution of sodium alginate;
• Threads of PVA: an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol and acetone;
• Superabsorbent: superabsorbent and kitchen salt;
• 1 graduated pot with lid;
• 2 food colours;
• 1 bouncing ball;
• 1 non-bouncing ball;
• 1 composite component;
• 1 box of petri dishes;
• 2 types of coloured beads;
• 20 sleeves of shrinkable PVC;
• 2 x 50 ml test tubes;
• 1 stirrer;
• 1 CD-ROM .

How to deal with the course in class?

The current version is reserved for the teacher or demonstrator who carries out the experiments him/herself. The quantities of products used enable students to see the phenomena clearly.
The student version enables each of these experiments to be carried out more than 20 times.

Note

This unit is packed so as to ensure maximum safety during transport.
